A computer diagnostic reads the fault codes stored by your car's control modules and the live data from its sensors. The code points to a system; the technician's testing finds the actual cause. We do this for most major makes, not only European vehicles.
What a diagnostic actually is
Every car built in the last two decades has an on-board diagnostic (OBD) system. When a sensor reading falls outside what the manufacturer expects, the car stores a fault code and, if it matters enough, turns on a warning light. A diagnostic reads those codes, reads the data the car was seeing when the fault happened, and then uses that to guide physical testing.
The important part is the testing. A code such as P0301 says "cylinder 1 misfire". It does not say whether the cause is a coil, a spark plug, an injector, low compression or a wiring fault. Replacing parts in order of cheapness is not diagnosis; it is gambling with your money.

When diagnostics are recommended
Any time a warning light stays on, any time a symptom repeats, and always before spending money on a part someone "thinks" is the problem. A flashing check engine light means an active misfire that can damage the catalytic converter; stop driving and contact us. A pre-purchase scan is also one of the cheapest ways to avoid buying someone else's problem.
What to bring
The car, ideally with the fault still present (do not clear the codes). If the problem is intermittent, note when it happens: cold start, hot, in traffic, at highway speed, in rain, with the AC on. Any recent repair history helps, especially if the symptom started after work was done elsewhere.

How long does a diagnostic take?
A full scan and initial assessment is usually done within the visit. Intermittent or heat-related faults may need the car for longer, and we will say so before you leave it.
Do you charge for diagnostics?
Diagnostic time is charged, and we will confirm the cost on WhatsApp before you come in. If you go ahead with the repair, we will tell you how the diagnostic is treated. If the repair goes ahead with us, ask how the diagnostic is treated.
How long can I drive with the check engine light on?
If it is steady and the car drives normally, get it read soon. If it is flashing, or the car is overheating, losing oil pressure or running badly, stop driving and contact us.
