Heat is the enemy of European engines in Jamaica
Many European cooling systems use plastic components (expansion tanks, thermostat housings, pipes, radiator end tanks) that become brittle with years of heat cycling. Jamaican ambient temperatures, traffic and hills push them harder. A small coolant weep on a BMW, Mercedes or VW is an early warning worth taking seriously; an overheating event on an aluminium engine can cost a head gasket or the engine.
The same heat thins oil and accelerates the breakdown of gaskets and seals. Using the specified oil, keeping intervals sensible and fixing leaks early is how these engines reach high mileage here.
Diagnosis before major work
Before any significant engine repair we confirm the cause: compression or leak-down tests, cooling-system pressure tests, live data, smoke tests for vacuum leaks, and scan data from the engine module. We will show you what we found and give a written estimate before starting. Warranty terms for parts and labour are confirmed in writing with the estimate.

Why is my car overheating?
The common causes in Jamaica are a low coolant level from a leak, a failed thermostat, a weak water pump, a cooling fan that no longer runs at full speed, a blocked radiator or a failed head gasket. Each needs a different repair, so we pressure-test and check the system before replacing parts.
